The 'Fluente' collection has a very strong Italian influence, with two key design features; geometric simplicity and flowing curves, which is what gives the collection its name - 'fluente' is the Italian word meaning 'flowing'. This Lounger is the collection's signature piece. It epitomises luxury and oppulence in the home environment.  

 

Hardwood Seat -

Whilst its design language may be european, the quality hardwood used comes from across the globe. The darker of the two is Sapele, a beautiful hardwood native to Tropical Africa, from the Ivory Coast to the Cameroons and eastward through Zaire to Uganda. The contrasting lighter wood is American White Ash which grows in eastern North America, from eastern Minnesota, southern Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia, to Texas and northern Florida. The 12 individual strips that make up the seat are hand-made using a lamination technique. We cut the hardwood planks to length and width, and then into 5mm thick strips. Five of these thin strips are then fixed together with wood adhesive, and simulaneously clamped into a former. After 24 hours the former can be unclamped, and the strip is permanently set into the desired shape. After manufacture, both woods are then sanded to an immaculate level of flatness and smoothness, before two layers of Shellac are generously applied, followed by a final wax and polish, to provide a slight sheen.

 

Stainless Steel Base -

More than 36 metres of 2mm thick Stainless steel tubing is used to produce the base of this lounger. This steel is originally sourced and produced in ............. and the straight tube is manufactured in ............. The bends are created in two parts using a combination of Mandrel and Roll bending. These two section are then welded to each other end-to-end using a custom-built jig before being polished to a mirror finish and assembled to each other to create the full base assembly.
